Terry Price - Cerritos College - Plastics for Inventors

  • 09/12/2008
  • 7:00 PM
  • Science Lecture Hall 101 at Orange Coast College, 2701 Fairview Rd., Costa Mesa

Terry Price, Plastics Department Chairman image002.jpgfrom Cerritos College , will be the presenter at the September 12th meeting.

Mr. Price has been teaching at

Cerritos College for over 35 years and has developed Certificate and Degree programs in Plastics and Composites as well as short focused courses.  He has also helped countless inventors with finding solutions to their specific problems

  • Do you have inventive ideas, but don’t know which step to take?
  • Are you planning to design or use plastic material?
  • If you are looking to learn about ways to use plastics in your ideas, then this is the meeting for you.  Come find out how to take your ideas to the next level.

The presentation will provide a “basic” understanding of manufacturing processes and materials used within the plastics industry.  Attendees have an opportunity to explore their own interest within the plastics manufacturing industry.  The presentation will include a variety of plastic samples and hand-out materials as well covering:

Terminology: learn industry terms to better communicate with designers, buyers, purchasing agents and investors.

Materials: gain knowledge about thermoplastics forms – sheet, rod, tube pellets, paste and powders. Receive reference materials on how to identify plastics.

Fabrication processes: learn how to visually identify processes used in making plastic parts. See the difference of molded, fabricated, formed, joined, welded, cast and bonded parts.

Tooling: learn methods of tooling, production versus short-run, costs, estimating, concepts of draft, texturing.

Applications: discover which materials and processes are best suited for your application whether it be automotive, giftware, marine, specialty, etc.

Equipment: explore limited production, secondary operations, decorating and finishing, labeling and packaging.

Production: learn about start-up, manufacturing, testing, inspection, packaging, limited or long-run production and sourcing.

Prototyping: understand about design, sketches, presentation drawings and models.

Registration starts at 7:00 P.M. and the seminar starts at 7:30 P.M. and lasts about 90 minutes. Refreshments are served in the lobby at 9:00 P.M. where you can network with other inventors.

Door fees are $10 for non-members and $5 for members. Parking is free.
